Work permits: Uscis announced that it will automatically extend them in some cases

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it will automatically extend the validity of certain work permits for some 800,000 immigrants for up to 540 days.

● Starting April 8, the immigrants who will be able to apply are:
⇢ Those who have requested the renewal of their work permit since October 27, 2023, or

⇢ Those who must renew this work permit between April 8, 2024 and before September 30, 2025.

The goal is to avoid interruptions in employment authorization for “certain non-citizens who have pending renewal of their Employment Authorization Application (EAD),” the agency said in a statement available on its website. ,

LONG TERM SOLUTIONS

“This rule will provide the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) an additional window to consider long-term solutions by soliciting public comments and identifying new strategies to ensure that noncitizens eligible for employment authorization can maintain that benefit,” added Ur M. Jaddou, director of USCIS.

Among the almost 800,000 beneficiaries of this measure, there are asylum seekers or migrants, applicants or recipients of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Green Card applicants.

If their work permits were not automatically renewed, the agency says they would be in danger of having their work permits interrupted and between 60,000 and 80,000 employers would be affected as a result of this interruption, the agency said.

The ultimate goal of this measure, according to the agency, is to “stabilize the continuity of operations for American employers.”
