The United States Department of State will reveal next Saturday, May 4, the list of beneficiaries of the 2025 Visa Lottery. This process is for those who applied to the electronic visa program. Visa Diversity between October 4 and November 7, 2023.
Each year, the United States government raffles off up to 55,000 visas with the Visa Diversity program so that certain citizens can legally immigrate to the country. Likewise, this program seeks to provide space for citizens of countries with historically low immigration rates to the United States.
SIX REGIONS
The State Department distributes visas among six geographic regions, and no country can receive more than 7% of those available in any year. To verify if you won, you must visit the page of the Visa Lottery and enter your information requiring the confirmation number that the system provided when applying.
The State Department reiterates that the review process is individual. Winners will not be notified by email nor will information be released through US embassies and consulates.
Applicants who are selected in the program must follow the steps that appear on the Visa Lottery portal. Among these, fill out the DS-260 application to schedule an interview with your respective embassy or consulate. Winning the lottery does not guarantee receiving residency and all those selected must meet the eligibility requirements, according to US law.
In the 2025 process, citizens of the following countries were not eligible to apply: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria , Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, the United Kingdom (and its territories), Venezuela and Vietnam.
The reason is that more than 50,000 people immigrated to the US during the last five years.
