Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 more months, starting March 3, 2024, and this Wednesday, January 10, the re-registration period begins.
Existing TPS recipients have until March 10 to register according to dates published by the US Federal Register and US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Se estima que 472,000 Venezuelans in the US can opt for protection to remain legally in the US. TPS applicants must demonstrate that they have been continuously residing in the United States until July 31, 2023.
Those who arrived in the United States after July 31, 2023 are not eligible for such protection and, according to what the Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro N. Mayorkas, said, they could be expelled if it is determined that they do not have a legal basis to stay.
USCIS explains on its website that if you currently have TPS under the Venezuela 2021 designation, you must re-register during the 60-day re-registration period that runs from January 10, 2024 to March 10, 2024.
If you already applied for TPS under the Venezuela 2021 designation, but your application was still pending on October 3, 2023, you do not need to submit a new application to re-register. If the pending Form I-821 is approved, USCIS clarifies that TPS will be granted until September 10, 2025.
